TEMPORARY CONSTRUCTION INSPECTORS

Grade: 63    Pay Range:  $20.72 to $29.01 per hour DOE/Q (not eligible for benefits)

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (eligible for overtime)

 

City of Prescott Department of Public Works is seeking an experienced, knowledgeable and professional Temporary Construction Inspector.  Under the general supervision of the Public Works Inspection Supervisor and the City Engineer, performs technical skilled work in inspecting roads, sidewalks, curb, gutter and drainage construction projects. 

Education and Experience: A high school diploma or equivalent required. Field experience in public works inspection and two years of post-high school education in a related field are desired. Certification for the inspection of road and utility construction are highly desired.  Applicant must have knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to successfully perform the essential duties of the job as listed below. 

 

Tasks: 

  • Reviews plans and specifications; inspects new and existing work to ensure compliance with codes, laws and regulations; prepares inspection reports; coordinates assigned activities with those of other departments, contractors and utilities; attends pre-construction and other construction meetings; monitors construction sites for compliance takes photos to document and writes daily field reports, warning notices, stop work orders and correction notices when necessary
  • Measure dimensions and verifies level, alignment, and elevation of structures, fixtures, and improvements to ensure compliance to construction plans and specifications. Must be able to read a grade stake.                      
  • Compute estimates of work completed or of needed renovations or upgrades.
  • Uses measuring, testing tools, and equipment to perform inspections.
  • Identify construction issues and notify appropriate City staff.

 

           

Knowledge, Skills, and Other Characteristics:

  • Knowledge of construction methods, materials, tools and equipment and associated inspection techniques for road, stormwater, and utilities construction.
  • Knowledge of applicable laws, codes, ordinances, regulations, and standard specifications for construction; principles and practices of effective supervision; and safety precautions.
  • Knowledge in reading, interpreting, and applying plans, specifications, codes, and regulations.
  • Knowledge in conducting effective field inspections; preparing typed inspection reports and maintaining detailed records; reviewing and coordinating plans and permit applications for final approval.
  • Knowledge in communicating and acting effectively with co-workers and the public in receiving work direction and accomplishing all assigned tasks.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.

Must be computer literate and have a working knowledge of both Word and Excel computer programs.

 

Physical and Visual Ability: sufficient to effectively and safely perform required duties and to safely operate required equipment and city vehicle as needed; walk extended distances and  traverse uneven terrain at times in adverse weather conditions; and climb ladders into and out of excavations for inspection purposes .

Hearing and Speaking Ability: sufficient to clearly, concisely and effectively communicate in person and over the telephone.
