Economic Development Manager

 

Starting Annual Salary:  $75,000 - $85,000 Based on Experience

FLSA Status:  Exempt - not eligible for overtime

Outstanding opportunity to work in the City Manager's Office of Economic Development, Tourism and Communications and lead Economic Development Projects for the City. Training and Experience:

Five years of professional experience in economic development, infrastructure development, commercial development, transportation development, workforce development, and/or business assistance and a Bachelor's Degree in economic development, urban planning, public administration, business administration, or a degree related to the core functions of the position. CEcD and/or AZEdPro certified preferred.  Experience with CRM software and municipal economic development experience in one or more of the following industries: Aerospace/Aviation, Technology, Medical, Advanced Manufacturing/Logistics, Office, Retail, and/or Higher Education.

 

Job Related and Essential Duties (including but not limited to):

Manages business recruitment and expansion and projects/programs that support the city's retail, commercial and industrial economic base, including small business initiatives; workforce development and talent attraction; business recruitment, expansion and retention; and redevelopment. Develops and implements business attraction and retention strategies and establishes relationships with the business/development community. Assists in negotiating agreements and educates the community about new developments. Establishes and maintains strategic private/public partnerships for positive long and short term economic goals.

 

Candidate's Job Related and Essential Qualifications: 

Knowledge of principles of economic and urban development, practices of sales models, forecasting, pipeline management, and lifecycle. Principles of public administration and redevelopment and economic development financing. Understanding of local, state and federal incentives available to business, real estate and site selection principles and practices, economic research techniques, methods and procedures.  Ability to establish and maintain relationships with community partners, identify prospects, develop leads, conduct site visits, and facilitate connections and recognize, develop and close prospective business opportunities.  Analyze and identify challenges, and recommend solutions and strategies. Convene with and present to representatives of various citizen groups, business organizations, private and public agencies.  Perform cost/benefit analysis. Coordinate and mediate efforts of both public and private agencies and committees involved in the economic development projects.  Skill in creating and implementing research strategies to support economic development efforts and utilizing critical thinking and problem solving skills.
