BUILDING INSPECTOR - Part Time Temp

Pay Grade:  63     Pay Range:  $20.72 to $29.01 per hour plus benefits

Part-Time Temporary Position (Not eligible for benefits)

16 - 20 Hours/Week FLSA Status:  Non-exempt eligible for overtime

 

Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent and experience equivalent to six (6) years journey level work in one or more construction trades. Any equivalent combination of education, experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the position. Candidate of choice must have passed pre-employment drug test and possess and maintain a valid Arizona driver's license. Certification from the International Code Council (ICC) as a Building Inspector preferred.

 

Tasks: 

  • Schedules timely inspections of new construction; performs field inspections of wiring, plumbing, foundations, structural integrity, and gas installations, constructions or repairs according to permits and licenses issued
  • Records/logs inspections with notes regarding compliance/non-compliance in each area; ensures licenses and permits are issued for all projects inspected; ensures conformance with all codes and building regulations.
  • Reviews commercial and residential construction blueprints, drawings, plans and specifications for compliance with building, electrical, mechanical and plumbing codes; coordinates with other City units including the Fire Department to insure plans are reviewed for compliance with fire, zoning, and other building codes
  • Tracks plans at various stages of the review/approval process.
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Other Characteristics:

  • Knowledge of Federal, State, and City of Prescott rules, regulations, policies, procedures, codes, and ordinances related to building codes and enforcement.
  • Knowledge of construction methods and materials.
  • Knowledge of occupational safety and health regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of skilled trades related to building construction, maintenance, repair and renovation.
  • Skill in safely inspecting and enforcing building code regulations.
  • Skill in tactfully providing technical expertise related to non-compliance with building code.
  • Skill in reading and following blueprints, as-built drawings, and engineering drawings.
  • Skill in written communications for administrative and technical purposes.
  • Skill in oral communication in one-on-one and group situations.
  • Skill in utilizing public relations techniques in responding to inquiries and complaints.

 

Physical and Visual Ability: sufficient to effectively and safely perform required duties and to safely operate required equipment and city vehicle as needed.

 

Hearing and Speaking Ability: sufficient to clearly, concisely and effectively communicate in person and over the telephone.
